Referrals to our Centre:
A referral letter from your physician is very helpful but not necessary. If your physician would like to refer you for consultation on a diving issue or injury, please ask them to fax their standard referral note to us at 416 223-6764. Please include any significant medical history and list of any medications being used.
Medical care for diving injuries are covered by OHIP.
Fitness to dive medical examinations require about 1 hour to complete and are conducted in accordance with:
- Code for the Medical Examination of Divers, Diving Operations Regulations, under the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. (R.R.O. 1990 Reg 848)
- Canadian Standards Association Subcommittee on Commercial Diving, Code Z275.4.
- Regulations of the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency
- Recommendations on Fitness to Dive, by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society
- The Diver’s Certification Board of Canada (DCBC)
These examinations include a comprehensive physical examination, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function tests, audiogram, and blood tests. Additional diagnostic tests, such as chest X-rays & stress tests, may be
required, based on the diver’s age and medical history.
Fitness to Dive medical examinations are not covered by OHIP and payment is due at the time of service. Additional charges will be incurred from the lab for the blood tests and chest X-rays.
The office manager will advise you of the costs when you schedule your appointment.
